The Dayton Daily News in accepting portfolios until July 1 for a full-
time staff photographer. Applicants should have at least three years
experience, a passion for photojournalism, the ability to produce
compelling photo stories and a willingness to master the new digital
camera technology. Candidates must have an experienced ability to
generate, shoot and layout photo stories. Although page design is not
part of the daily responsibilities, candidates will need to work
closely with editors and designers to get self-generated photo
stories into the paper.

It is essential that the successful candidate work well in a team
environment. Working nights and weekends is required.

Position Summary

The Advertising Coordinator has the primary role of giving creative,
energetic, effective direction to The Office of Student Media
advertising operations. The Advertising Coordinator is responsible
for recruiting, training and advising student staffs in advertising
sales, promotion, development and transaction procedures. The
position coordinates the circulation activities of the daily
newspaper, assists in collection efforts and coordinates
communication concerning deadlines, delivery and quality control with
the printer(s). The Advertising Coordinator helps establish goals and
objectives, as well as sales strategies, and develops and maintains
revenue sources in local, area, state regional and national markets.
He or she sees that credit policies are followed and that
departmental standards are upheld. This position is essential for
maintaining the continuity of the student media programs and the
fiscal stability of the student newspaper.

The Advertising Coordinator, under the supervision and direction of
the
Associate Director of Student Media, manages the day-to-day
operations of the advertising department of The Crimson White, which
publishes four days a week and has a budget in excess of $800,000.
The coordinator also works closely with the business/advertising
staffs of the Corolla yearbook; student-run radio station WVUA-FM;
literary magazines Black Warrior Review and Marr's Field Journal; and
historical journal Southern Historian.

Business Manager

This position reports to the Director of Student Media and oversees
the
business services of Student Media. Student Media includes The
Reveille, Gumbo, Legacy, KLSU and Tiger TV. Authorization relative to
expenditure of departmental funds, hiring of permanent staff, and
establishment of major policies must be received from the Director.

Qualifications Required:

- Bachelor¹s degree in accounting, business administration or
finance.
- At least three years job experience in accounting or business with
administrative and managerial skills.
- Knowledge and experience in performing and managing financial
activity throughout the full accounting cycle.
- Knowledge and experience in using main frame and micro computer
applications, maintaining accounting computers and using accounting
software.
- Excellent human relations skills.
- Experience in handling complex tasks, data and fiscal planning.
- Ability to multi-task.

Duties and Responsibilities:

E/N %

E 30 Responsible for the monthly billing for Student Media units in a
timely manner. This includes working with the Advertising Manager to
set up policies, keep an accurate age history, and initiate the
collection process.

E 35 Responsible for the timely reporting and analysis of all
financial
data pertinent to Student Media operations. This includes developing,
implementing and monitoring financial policies, procedures and
reports for budgeting, billing, purchasing, cashiering, accounting,
auditing,
reporting and analysis, ensuring adherence to University guidelines.
It
also includes budget forecasting.

E 20 Responsible for managing the Student Media business operation.
This includes hiring, developing, evaluating and disciplining student
worker, and supervising and directing the Administrative Specialist 1
who oversees payroll, personnel leave tracking, purchasing, ITs, DTs
and travel. It also includes serving as building coordinator, setting
up plant funds, taking care of property inventory, dispersing student
checks and approving invoices for payment, internal transactions and
journal vouchers. With the Administrative Specialist 1, this person
will consult, communicate, correspond and coordinate business
activity with other divisions of LSU. This person also will serve as
a liaison with the Office of Accounting Services.

E 10 Responsible for the internal audit function within Student Media
business affairs, including monthly MOT reconciliation. This also
includes development and maintenance of the internal audit guide and
procedures in accordance with generally accepted audit standards and
in compliance with University rules and regulations. This position
will work with all departments to establish audit controls and
procedures.

E 5 Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of
Student Media.

Work Description: find, research and develop stories for commercial
TV news and a daily national radio program. The associate producer
(AP) must be an excellent journalist, curious, extremely self-
motivated and directed, and well-versed and knowledgeable in the field
(s) covered. Must be able to translate complex subject matter into a
simple and conversational style.

The American Communications Foundation (ACF) is a non-profit,
non-ideological organization supported entirely by private
foundations.
Currently we provide stories for The Osgood File on the CBS Radio
Network and for California commercial television stations KRON-TV and
Bay TV in San Francisco and KTTV-TV and KCBS-TV in Los Angeles. We
are also about to begin working with a major national TV news network.

The ACF focuses on a variety of subject areas, among them: the
Environment, Science and Technology, Religion and American Society,
Art and Culture, Democracy, and Healthcare.

We are currently seeking an AP to work in the area of Democracy.
Each AP spends six to eight weeks just learning about the subject
they will
specialize in. All ACF staff must work out of their homes, with
essential meetings in Mill Valley once or twice a week. This is a
full-time, demanding position.

Requirements/duties

Story production:
- Find original story ideas for TV and radio news reports and
build comprehensive research file.
- Pitch, shape and focus stories for broadcast within scope of ACF
mission and guidelines.
- Work closely with ACF's television and radio executive producers to
develop and oversee stories.
- Consult with television reporters and radio field producers during
story production, including pre-story consultation, problem-solving
and general oversight of early production phase.
- Edit and review radio story scripts for accuracy, clarity and style.

Subject knowledge:
- Develop and demonstrate interest and proficiency in subject area(s)
covered.
- Conduct ongoing informational interviews with experts in the field,
extensive reading and study of subject area.
- Develop a comprehensive web of knowledgeable sources and contacts.
This requires in-depth understanding of subject, ability to determine
the most important issues, the most compelling individuals to
interview, the right questions to ask and becoming conversant in
complex subject matter.

Organizational/Administrative:
Attend weekly editorial meetings.
Compile and maintain databases of contacts and information acquired
in story finding and informational interviews.
Maintain an organized structure in which to track extensive
information.
Submit progress reports.

Qualifications
Professional journalism abilities.
An ability to work independently; an aggressive approach to
researching and developing original stories; a hard working and
cooperative attitude; an ability to manage several tasks
simultaneously and an ability to take responsibility for getting a
job done efficiently, correctly and quickly.
Excellent writing ability.
Computer and Web proficiency.
References that will prove applicant has above qualifications.

This is a full time position, with salary and benefits competitive
with
commercial TV--

$30,000-$40,000.
